Dr. Allison Tillack
Dr. Allison Tillack has recently become a Certified B-Reader.
There are only 207 certified B-readers in the United States. This unique designation requires specialized professional training and certication through the National Institure for Occupational Safety and Health for demonstrating prociency in reading diagnostic imaging associated with pneumoconiosis.
Protecting Workers Through Certified B-Reader Services
B-Readers play an important role in providing medical diagnosis and follow-up for workers with occupational exposures to airborne particulates such as coal mine dust, asbestos, and crystalline silica. Recently implemented Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations have increased the need for the services provided by B-Readers and Inland Imaging is proud to be able to offer those services due to Dr. Tillack’s special training and expertise.
Pneumoconiosis
Interpretation Services
Pneumoconiosis is a lung disease caused by the inhalation of airborne dust and fibers. Patients usually encounter these inhalants in the workplace environment, and therefore it is considered an occupational disease. The most common types of pneumoconiosis are asbestosis, silicosis, and coal miner’s lung. These particles cause inflammation and fibrosis in the lung resulting in irreversible lung disease. Prevention relies on workplace exposure management and health management regulations.

Frequently Asked Questions
A B-Reader is a physician who has received specialized training and certification through the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) to interpret chest X-rays for pneumoconiosis and other occupational lung diseases. There are only 207 certified B-Readers in the United States.
Pneumoconiosis is a lung disease caused by inhaling airborne dust and fibers, typically in workplace environments. The most common types include asbestosis (from asbestos exposure), silicosis (from crystalline silica), and coal worker’s pneumoconiosis (coal miner’s lung). These particles cause inflammation and scarring in the lungs, leading to irreversible lung damage.
Workers who have been exposed to airborne particulates such as coal mine dust, asbestos, or crystalline silica may need B-Reader services for screening, diagnosis, and ongoing monitoring of occupational lung disease. Employers in certain industries are also required by OSHA regulations to provide these screenings.
Pneumoconiosis causes irreversible lung damage and cannot be cured. However, early detection through B-Reader screenings can help manage the condition and prevent further exposure. Prevention through workplace exposure management and compliance with health regulations is essential.
